Library Art Show set Oct. 7

Staff reports

The Iberville Parish Library will be hosting its thirty-ninth annual Acadian Art Show with entries being accepted at the J. Allan Nadler Building, 24605 J. Gerald Berret Blvd., in Plaquemine, on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  (If this is not convenient, please contact the library.)  The Art Show attracts over seventy artists from south Louisiana in both professional and non-professional divisions.  Each year approximately 250 original art pieces are displayed, many of which are for sale at reasonable prices!

Competition is open to all non-professional and professional artists.  Paintings must be the original work of the entrant and may not be copies of other artists' work or have been entered in previous Acadian Art Show competitions.  All art must be framed or matted and ready to hang.   Due to space limitations, no painting exceeding 45 inches in size in any one direction, including frame, will be accepted.

Begun in 1999: Young Artists Corner (for artists under 16 years of age) is part of the event. All framing rules and entrance fees apply.  No 1st, 2nd or 3rd place prizes awarded.  Honorable Mention Ribbons awarded at judge’s discretion.

Entries will be displayed at the library, October 10th through the 17th, during library hours with a public reception being held in the meeting room of the Library, Sunday, October 18, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.  The reception will feature Margaret Beatty, this year's Miss Evangeline.  Members of the Plaquemine Service League will be serving refreshments.

Ribbon premiums for first, second, and third place will be awarded, with a special ribbon being presented to the grand prizewinner in each division.  Cash awards, made possible by a generous donation from Sygenta of St. Gabriel are given to the grand prize and first place winners.  Gift certificates, provided by the Friends of the Iberville Public Libraries, are awarded to the second and third place winners.
