Bayou Goula man arrested in drive-by shooting incident

A Bayou Goula man was charged with two counts of aggravated assault by drive-by shooting and criminal damage to property after he allegedly fired on a car on La. 1 near Bayou Goula, Chief Criminal Deputy Stephen Engolio of the Iberville Sheriff's Office reported Monday.

Bernell Jackson, 24, of 57215 Cpl. Herman Brown, who was arrested on the charges, told deputies he thought he heard gunshots and that someone had fired on him, Engolio said. The chief deputy said Jackson chased the other car, occupied by two men, and fired several shots from a handgun.

No one was hit, but two bullets lodged in the other car, Engolio said.

The other two men were not charged.

“They was no evidence that [Jackson] was shot at or that the other guys had a gun,” Engolio said.

Jackson is free on a $50,000 bond, records showed.
