State Police announces 'sobriety checkpoints' in Iberville this weekend

Staff reports

Louisiana State Police Troop A announced Wednesday it would  conduct a DWI Sobriety Checkpoint in Iberville Parish this weekend, but did not give the location.

The checkpoints are part of an on-going law enforcement effort by  to identify and remove impaired drivers from state highways.

Sobriety checkpoints are an effective enforcement tool, serving as a deterrent to impaired and drunken driving, a Troop A spokesman said.

The task of stopping these impaired drivers is a joint effort of law enforcement agencies and the public. By never allowing an impaired driver to get behind the wheel of a vehicle and reporting dangerous drivers to law enforcement, the public can play an important role in the reduction of crashes caused by impaired driving.

Citizens cnn report impair drivers  or dangerous roadway conditions to the State Police by dialing *LSP or (*577) on a cell phone.
