State Police announces 'sobriety checkpoints' in Iberville this weekend
Louisiana State Police Troop A announced Wednesday it would conduct a DWI Sobriety Checkpoint in Iberville Parish this weekend, but did not give the location.
The checkpoints are part of an on-going law enforcement effort by to identify and remove impaired drivers from state highways.
Sobriety checkpoints are an effective enforcement tool, serving as a deterrent to impaired and drunken driving, a Troop A spokesman said.
The task of stopping these impaired drivers is a joint effort of law enforcement agencies and the public. By never allowing an impaired driver to get behind the wheel of a vehicle and reporting dangerous drivers to law enforcement, the public can play an important role in the reduction of crashes caused by impaired driving.
