Early voting on a proposition that would eliminate term limits for the Iberville Parish president and councilmen opens Saturday at the Iberville Registrar of Voters Office on the second floor of the courthouse.

Early voting will continue from Monday through Saturday, March 13-20. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on each day, Voter Registrar Melissa S. Bourgoyne announced.

Election day is Saturday, March 27. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. then.

The term limits issue is the only item on the ballot. The Iberville Parish Council is proposing the repeal of a provision that limits them, as well as the parish president, to three consecutive terms in office.

Voters imposed in limit in a separate proposition at the same time they approved the Home Rule Charter form of government at a January 1997 election.

Parish President J. Mitchell Ourso Jr. and a number of the 13 Parish Council members would be ineligible to run for re-election in 2011 if voters reject the current proposal.
