Parish Councilman Howard Oubre Jr. said he and two other Iberville Parish Council members are campaigning against a proposition that would allow them to continue in their offices.

Voters will decide on lifting the three-term limits on council members and the parish president at an election on Saturday, March 27. Early voting starts Saturday.

“We've done our 12 years,” Oubre said. “Give somebody else a chance.”

He said he and councilmen Salaris Butler of Seymourville and Leonard “Buck” Jackson of St. Gabriel are campaigning against the proposition with newspaper ads, flyers and radio commercials. The three council members voted against putting the issue on the ballot.

He said they also are working to get out an early vote, as are Parish President J. Mitchell Ourso Jr. and his supporters.

“They're claiming they're going to get 1,400 early votes,” Oubre said of the Ourso camp, “...but I know some of them who are not going to vote for it.”
