Autism Society representative to speak Tuesday in Plaquemine
Pat Giamanco, administrative assistant of the Louisiana State Chapter of the Autism Society, will speak at a free public meeting starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday (April 20) in Plaquemine.
The Iberville Parish School System is sponsoring the meeting at the Sam Distefano Building/Media Center on Plaquemine Street as part of national Autism Month.
Giamanco will provide information on the signs and symptoms of autism, discuss the latest information from t he Center for Disease Control, share plans for a possible “satellite” family group for advocacy and support in Iberville Parish and give a history of the autism society.
The state autism society is a coalition of local chapters, a network of families, offering support, information, referrals and advocacy for those affected by autism.
During the Autism Month, the school system is sharing information with parents, teachers and the community on autism to increase awareness and educational opportunities for students with autism and to assist parents with greater resources.
