Rosedale approved for housing rehab

The state has approved the Village of Rosedale for a $529,250 grant for housing rehabilitation in the Depot area, Mayor Lawrence “Football” Badeaux announced last week.

“We have a lot of lots with deteriorating mobile homes and old houses that are falling down,” he said. “This will clean up that area pretty good.”

Some 22 homes on Depot, Augusta, Wiley Dawkins and Canal roads are to be replaced by new structures, to be renovated or demolished in the low-income area, the mayor said.

The grant would provide money to build five new homes at a cost of $65,000 each; demolish seven vacant mobile homes and one vacant structure at a cost of $5,000 each; substantially renovate three homes at a cost of $13,750 each, and provide minor renovations of five other homes, at a cost of $7,500 each.

Badeaux said he received word of the Louisiana Community Development Block Grant (LCDBG) grant from both Gov. Bobby Jindal and state Sen. Rob Marionneaux Jr.

Jindal said the grant award is contingent on the state's receipt of funds from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
