The Plaquemine Police on Sunday arrested a local man in the burglary of Toups' Oyster Bar & Grill at Belleview Road and Earle Drive, according to Capt. Kenneth Payne.

George Arnold, 26, of 24515 Earle Drive, was booked on charges of resisting an officer, unauthorized entry of a place of business and simple burglary, Payne said.

The police went to the scene in response to a burglar alarm, but found no one there, the captain said. He said nothing was taken in the break-in, and that police identified the suspect using security tapes at the restaurant and a business next door.

“The tape shows him going through the money box,” Payne said. “I think the audible alarm scared him off.”

Arnold led officers on a short foot chase when they found the suspect his apartment complex, the captain said.
