State Police probe bicycle fatality
State Police Troop A is continuing to investigate an accident that left a 61-year-old bicycle rider dead at the scene on La. 75 in front of the Bayou Sorrel Fire Department Sunday night.
The identity of the Plaquemine man had not been released pending the notification of the next of kin.
According to TFC Russell G. Graham II, the bicyclist, traveling south on La. 75, swerved to the left and into the path of a 2009 Fort Pickup driven by Jody Deville Jr., 20, of Plaquemine. The pickup struck the rear of the bicycle and the bicyclist was ejected.
Troopers did not consider impairment to have been a factor on the part of Deville. Troopers have submitted a sample of the bicyclist's blood to the State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed, Graham said.
