Baton Rouge dies in one-car crash at Sunshine
A Baton Rouge man died Sunday morning in a one-car crash in an “S” curve of La. 991 north of La. 75 in St. Gabriel, State Police Troop A reported.
The Iberville Parish Coroner pronounced Daniel Parker, 37, dead at the scene.
State Police investigators found that while in the curve, Parker ran off the road to the left, struck a culvert, and became airborne. The 1994 Mazda he was driving then struck a utility pole, overturned, and came to rest on its roof in a ditch.
Parker was not properly restrained and was partially ejected during the crash. Troopers believe that Parker had the shoulder portion of the seat belt behind his back when the crash occurred.
Troopers do not suspect alcohol as a factor in the crash. However, they have submitted a sample of Parker’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
Troopers do suspect that speed, a wet roadway, and the poor condition of the tires on the vehicle contributed
