t. Gabriel-St. Jude Hospital annual Jambalaya Cook Off set for Sunday
SSt. Gabriel’s fourth annual PaPa George Fairchild Jambalaya Cook Off to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is set for this Sunday (Sept. 12).
The event will be held on the St. Gabriel Catholic Church grounds with the cooking beginning at 6 a.m. and should be finished by around 10:30 a.m. A winner will be announced by 1:30 p.m. Also in store is the annual Mini-Pot Cook Off for kids, beginning at 10 a.m.
The Lil’ Bayou Band will be on site to provide entertainment.
Jambalaya will be sold at $5 a plate with a serving of white beans and bread. Food serving will begin at 11:30 a.m. Refreshments of all kinds as well as sweets will be on sale.
A raffle will be held with ticket prices of $1 for a chance to win a homemade LSU quilt among other prizes. T-shirts, hats, and Koozies also will be sold.
The money raised will help fund the life-saving research and treatment for children battling cancer and other catastrophic diseases at the St. Jude Hospital.

Fairchild of St. Gabriel is honored each year by the local KCs. He won the first Gonzales Jambalaya Festival World Championship as a cook in 1968. Cooks at the annual event will follow Fairchild’s method of preparing chicken jambalaya on a wood fire.
