Vet parade set in Port Allen Nov. 7
West Baton Rouge Parish’s sixth annual Veterans Parade has been set for Sunday, Nov. 7, in Port Allen.
The event, which is titled “Louisiana Veterans on Parade 2010” is the only military-honoring parade sanctioned by the state.
Every division of the military will be represented in the event as well as High School ROTC groups.
The USS Kidd, docked across the river in Baton Rouge, will again fire its guns to officially begin the parade at 1:30 p.m. This year U.S. Air Force bombers will do a flyover during the event.
The parade will start at Rivault Park (near the Mississippi River Bridge) and will end at the Port Allen Courthouse.
Iberville Parish veterans have long been a part of the parade and are cordially invited again in November. Plaquemine resident and former La. Lt. Gov. Bobby Freeman was the Grand Marshal of the parade in 2009. This year’s grand marshal will be honored at the courthouse at the parade’s end as well as local veterans.
The WBR Parish Museum will open a memorabilia display on WWII on parade day as well.
