Veteran photos must be sent by Oct. 2

Staff reports
AWARD-WINNING MEMORIAL...The Iberville Parish Veteran’s Memorial, which honors the parish’s war veterans, is itself garnering honors even before it’s opening on Tuesday, November 11. In its recent design competition, the Louisiana chapter of the American Association of Architects has presented the memorial’s architects, Grace & Hebert, with a prestigious honor award.

Photos of veterans to be placed at the Iberville parish Veterans Memorial must be sent by Oct. 2. That gives those, who wish to have family photos placed, two more weeks to provide them for use.

The photos will be an exciting addition to its Salute to Veterans ceremony on Veterans’ Day, Nov. 11.

The new Iberville Wall of Veterans will be a wall display of photographs of veterans. And, because Iberville has many National Guard troops presently stationed in Iraq, another display will also be created with photographs of active military personnel.

The event will also feature the unveiling of four bronze statues and a bronze eagle on the parish’s award-winning Veterans Memorial.

Residents are asked to bring in their veteran or active military photos for scanning.

Area residents and loved ones will play an important role in creation of the Iberville Wall of Veterans and display of active military. They are asked to bring their favorite photograph of their veteran or military person, preferably in military attire, to one of three locations for scanning.

Arrangements have been made for the photographs to be scanned while the resident waits to ensure that these valued photographs never leave ownership of the person bringing them for scanning. The person providing the photo will complete a brief form listing the name and military branch of the veteran or active military, while the photo is being scanned.

The scanned photos will be made into beautiful standing displays that will be available for viewing prior to and after the Iberville Salute to Veterans Ceremony on Veterans Day.

Veterans or active military are not required to be residents of Iberville to be placed on the Wall display as long as they have some tie to Iberville, for example they have family or friends who love or work here, were born here or lived here, married a local resident, etc.

Residents or loved ones should bring a photo no larger than 8 X 10 to one of the following locations for scanning. If framed, the photo must be taken out of the frame prior to being brought for scanning.

Photos should be brought to one of the three scanning locations during their business hours between the dates of Monday, Sept. 20 through Saturday, Oct. 2, 1010. No photographs will be accepted after Saturday, Oct. 2.

The staff of the Iberville Parish Library locations in Plaquemine and east Iberville and the Iberville Visitors Center in north Iberville have graciously agreed to scan the photos. Open hours of the facilities are:
