Vets Day event to feature two additions

Staff reports

Iberville Parish’s Salute to Veterans event on November 11 will feature two

Additions.

New to the event will be the Iberville Wall of Veterans photo display and the unveiling

of five bronze statues on the award-winning memorial.

The Wall of Veterans and Wall of Active Military standing photo displays

Will include the photos of more than 700 veterans and active military

personnel who have a tie to Iberville Parish. They were born here or live or

work here, married a local resident, or have friends or family who live or

work in Iberville.

“The Iberville Wall of Veterans has drawn a tremendous amount of interest

from local residents and veterans,” said Iberville Parish President J.

Mitchell Ourso, Jr.  “We are thrilled that so many pictures were brought in

for scanning, and hope we get that same response for the display on Veterans

Day.”

The display will be open from 1:30 p.m. until dark. The photos will be

placed in alphabetical order so that individual veterans can easily be

found. After the ceremony, it will be placed in the Iberville Parish

Courthouse lobby for viewing for several weeks.

The ceremony to honor veterans and unveil the bronze statues will begin at

3:30 p.m., with the keynote address by Major General Bennett Landreneau,

Adjutant General of Louisiana. He is responsible for deployment and

coordination of programs, policies and plans affecting more than 11,000

members of the Louisiana Army and Air National Guard.

The five beautiful bronze statues to be unveiled in the ceremony will be

permanent additions to the Iberville Veterans Memorial. The Iberville Salute

to Veterans event is sponsored by Parish President Ourso and the Iberville

Council. Both the memorial and the statues were funded by the parish,

through the leadership of Ourso and the Council.

The event is being coordinated by the Iberville Image Committee.
