Acadian ArtShow features original work by local artists

Staff reports

The Iberville Parish Library will hold a public reception honoring artists with work in the 2010 Acadian ArtShow from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Main Library on J. G. Berret Blvd. in Plaquemine.

The cultural event, held each October in conjunction with the International Acadian Festival, includes oil paintings, drawings and watercolors by professional and non-professional artists from Iberville and surrounding parishes.

This year's Miss Evangeline, Maddie Bahry, will present awards to the show's winning artists at the reception. The Plaquemine Service League will serve refreshments.

The show is open for public viewing during library hours  – 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. today (Thursday), 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Printed programs are available listing the artists and the titles of their artwork.

“The art is all original work—much of it created by your friends and neighbors,” said Librarian Dannie Ball. “Many of the pieces are for sale, and at reasonable prices!  It’s a great opportunity to see quality local art, and to buy original art to decorate your home, office or camp.”

Ribbons for first, second, and third place will be awarded. Cash awards made possible by a donation from Syngenta of St. Gabriel will be given to the grand prize and first place winners.  Gift certificates for use at the Co-Op Bookstore at LSU, funded by a donation from the Friends of the Iberville Public Libraries, will be awarded to the second and third place winners.
