Full slate of events set for International Acadian Festival

A midway of exciting rides is part of the festivities at the annual International Acadian Festival this weekend at the Mike Zito Multi-Purpose Center. The festival ends Sunday night.

Events have been set for this weekend’s celebration of the International Acadian Festival in Plaquemine.

The Water Ceremony and presentation of 2010 Evangeline Maddie Bahry and her court of Indian Princesses were held last weekend. In addition to the arrival of Evangeline on the shores of Bayou Plaquemine, an official Knights of Columbus Mass was held Saturday and then Presentation ceremonies Saturday evening at the Carl F. Grant Civic Center.

As part of the ceremonies, Archie Callais was named this year’s Parade Grand Marshal and received the Gary J. Hebert Sr. Memorial Plaque for the honor.

SPECIAL NOTE: This year special guests from the History Channel’s popular “Swamp People” cable program will be on had at the festival grounds to sign autographs and visit. The stars of the “Swamp People” series will ride in the annual parade on the Iberville Bank float as well.

Also, this year’s festival will include many more arts and crafts booths than in past years, providing a lot more interest for the public.

Friday, October 15, 2010

4 p.m.—Ribbon Cutting & Blessing of Grounds
