Three of four parish schools land post-season gridiron action

The White Castle Bulldogs travel to Edgard tonight to face West St. John in a battle of unbeaten District 8-1A teams. The winner will emerge 8-1A champion.

Playoff action is on the slate Friday night for three of the four Iberville Parish high school football teams.

White Castle, Plaquemine and St. John will enter the "second season" action, with the Bulldogs earning a home berth for the first round.

District 8-1A champion White Castle is at home for a rematch against district runner-up West St. John. The Bulldogs (7-3) enter the playoffs seeded 15th, while West St. John (5-5) is seeded 18th.

The Plaquemine Green Devils, who finished the season 5-5, snatched the 32nd and final seed in the 3A playoffs. Plaquemine travels to No.l-seeded Notre Dame-Crowley, which finished regular season fare undefeated in 10 games.

The St. John Eagles, who struggled with a four-game losing streak after a string of injuries, head to Metairie to battle 10th-seeded Country Day. St. John landed the No. 23 seed in the Class 1A pairings after winning there of their four 8-1A outings.

In area playoff action, Ascension Episcopal drew the No. 32 seed to land its first-ever playoff ranking and a trip to top-seeded Westminster.

The Port Allen Pelicans landed the No. 24 seed and a trip to Monroe for action against No. 9-seeded Carroll in Class 3A playoff fare. Port Allen landed a key district win this season against Plaquemine, as well as 8-3A wins over Brusly and Livonia.

District 8-3A champion St. James (4-6) entered at the No. 21 spot, which landed the Wildcats a trip to 12th-seeded Loranger.
