BLOCKED OUT ... White Castle advances after regional win over Block High

The White Castle Bulldogs remained in the hunt for a trip to the Superdome after they defeated Block High School 36-19 in Class 1A regional playoff action Friday night.

The Bulldogs, the only remaining Iberville Parish squad in post-season action, entertains St. Edmund’s in quarterfinal action Friday, Nov. 26. St. Edmund’s defeated Country Day-Metairie 34-21 in the regional round.

Against Block, running back Tyree Bracken powered the Bulldogs with 280 yards on 29 carries and three touchdowns to help lead WCHS to victory.

The senior Bulldog scored on a 57-yard scamper to give 15th-seeded WCHS the lead. After the TD and two-point conversion, the Bulldogs never looked back in the battle against their foes from Calcassieu Parish.

Bracken also had runs of 55 and 31 yards in the second half.

Block, seeded second in the playoff bracket, took a 7-0 lead in the first half off a Pretson Bowman 19-yard TD run.

WCHS fought back when the Bulldogs intercepted Trevor Vault’s pass, opening the gate for Bracken to score on the next play.

LSU signee Ronald Martin fired an 11-yard TD pass to Isaac O’Bear to give White Castle a 14-7 halftime lead.

Martin finished two-for-seven for 21 yards. He ran for 32 yards and one ground TD.

The game remained tight for the early part of the second half, with each team scoring in the third quarter.

White Castle sealed the win with 16 unanswered points in the final stanza.
