Iberville's jobless rate drops slightly

Iberville Parish's unemployment rate dropped from 11.3 percent in October to 10.9 November, according to the latest report from the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

Iberville was one of 16 Louisiana parishes with a jobless rate in double digits.

The local rate was more than five points higher than the statewide and Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area rates of 7.7 percent, and topped the national rate of 9.3 percent by more than one and a half percent, the report showed.

Statewide, the highest unemployment rates were posted in East and West Carroll parishes, where unemployment reached 15.7 and 15.2 percent, respectively. The lowest rate was 5.5 percent in Lafourche Parish.

The report showed 75 fewer workers in the Iberville workforce in November compared to October. In November, there were 11,556 workers in jobs and 1,412 unemployed in the parish, compared to 11,573 employed and 1,480 unemployed in October. In November 2009, with the unemployment rate at 9.2 percent, there were 11,509 employed and 1,161 unemployed.
