They're not saying what, but Dow Chemical Company plans a major announcement in connection with the new Louisiana Community and Technical College System's new Westside campus at 1 p.m. Monday, February 1, at the Plaquemine High School gym.

“They want to build some excitement about it,” said Ellie Hebert of Peacock Communications, who is handling public relations for the event. “It's going to be exciting, I promise you that.”

The Iberville Parish School Board last week formally donated 10 acres of land next to Plaquemine High School as the site for the new Westside technical college, which is in the design phase. The school will offer dual enrollment possibilities for high school students who want to study for careers in industry, as well as post-secondary education and GED classes for others.

Public officials, members of the Iberville Chamber of Commerce and representatives of LCTCS have been invited to the event, Hebert said, but it is open to the public as well.

The design for the new school will be unveiled at the meeting, she said.
