Local keeper to give the 'buzz on bees'

Staff reports

Plaquemine beekeeper Charlene Bishop will provide an introduction to the productive hobby, plus a honey-tasting, at a program from 1-3 p.m. Saturday (February 5) at the Plaquemine Library.

“The Buzz on Bees” is the first in the Friends of the Iberville Public Libraries' free spring gardening programs.

Bishop, a member of the Capital Area Bee Association and of the Friends' Board of Directors, will offer samples of light honey gathered in early spring, medium honey gathered in the summer, dark honey collected in the fall and lavender-infused honey.

Although the program is free, registration is required so the Friends can be sure to have enough honey and biscuits to go around. Those who wish to register can do so at the Plaquemine Library, by calling Friends' liaison Elizabeth Haynes at 687-2520, Ext. 105.

At the next program, Master Gardener Eddie Vigil will discuss starting spring vegetable gardens at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 5, also at the Plaquemine Library.
