The Iberville Parish Library is offering a free tutoring service that can be accessed from within your local Iberville Parish Library branch or from a student’s home computer.

“HomeworkLouisiana” is an online resource provided through the State Library of Louisiana that connects Louisiana students, K-12 and college, with live tutors online for one on one help with homework.

The service also offers studying and test preparation in all core academic subjects including math, science, social studies and English. Tutoring in Spanish also is available.

“HomeworkLouisiana” is powered by Tutor.com, the leading online tutoring and homework help service. Students can access the service by logging on to the library website at www.iberville.lib.la.us and clicking on the link listed under Statewide Databases, or going to www.homeworkla.com.

The State Library of Louisiana is able to offer this after-school program to Louisiana’s students as part of the “Louisiana Libraries: Connecting People to Their Potential” project, funded through an $8.8 million BroadbandUSA grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act  that the State Library won last year, said State Librarian Rebecca Hamilton.

Students who have trouble with a homework problem or concept can call on the professional tutors from HomeworkLouisiana for help. Tutors are certified teachers, graduate school students, university students and professionals in their fields, and who have completed a thorough background check.

A student is connected to a tutor anonymously in a secure online classroom where they use text-chat, an interactive whiteboard and secure web sharing to communicate. Once the session is completed, the student can print or email their session to themselves for later review.

A “SkillsCenter” allows students to access online tutorials to build skills in math, science, English and social studies..

The professional tutoring portion of “HomeworkLouisiana” is available from 2-10 p.m. Sunday throughThursday.
