ONE MORE TO GO! White Castle heads to 1A championship game vs. Southern Lab
White Castle rallied from a one-point lead at the end of the third quarter to defeat top-seeded North Central 53-46 as the Bulldogs earned a spot in the Class 1A championship game.
The WCHS win at the Lafayette Cajundome sends the Bulldogs to the 1A state title game Saturday against longtime rival Southern Lab, a 46-29 winner over Grambling in the other 1A semi-final contest. Southern Lab improved to 24-7, while Grambling finished its season 26-6.
White Castle and Southern Lab will meet in the championship game at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Cajundome.
Quadry Allen led White Castle (24-9) with 16 points, and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Randy Roster bucketed eight points and finished 5-for-8 at the mark. Ronald Martin and Terrence Fair each tallied 11, while Isaac O'Bear scored three.
Martin had nine rebounds.
Allen was 4-of-8 from three-point range. The Bulldogs went 5-for-16 from the field.
Nathaniel Francis scored 15 and Howard Wilson had 13 for North Central, which ended its season 29-5.
WCHS held a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 27-19 at the half. North Central netted 19 points in the third stanza to cut the White Castle lead to one point.
