Get ready to drive! Enterprise Blvd.-South opens officially Friday
Iberville Parish officials will officially dedicate and open Enterprise Boulevard-South – Plaquemine's new crosstown connection – at 10 a.m. Friday (April 8) near the Iberville Parish Jail.
“People love to drive a new road,” Parish President J. Mitchell Ourso Jr. said, observing that some motorists already are trying out the brand new stretch of road.
The $1.3 million road, built by BJM Construction, connects Enterprise Boulevard-North in the Choctaw area and Enterprise Bridge over Bayou Plaquemine with Belleview Road at Tenant Road.
As the new road is opened, the intersection of W. W. Harleaux Street and Bayou Road will be closed. The state Department of Transportation and Development required the closure because the old intersection is too near Enterprise Boulevard's intersection with the state-controlled Bayou Road.
Plaquemine Mayor Mark A. “Tony” Gulotta said the city and the parish are going together to pave a gravel road connecting Harleaux with Bayou Road just northeast of the current intersection.
Ourso said DOTD has to approve that plan first, however, to make sure it is far enough away from the major new intersection.
