Local religious leaders planning Prayer Walk for Unity

Staff reports

A number of local religious leaders will be holding a special Prayer Walk for Unity in Plaquemine Saturday, April 16.

The event will begin at the Veterans Memorial at noon and will end after the walk at 2 p.m.

Seventeen local churches have decided to take part in the walk, representing the Catholic, Episcopalian, Protestant, and Baptist churches in the community. The church families are racially mixed.

At least a half-dozen pastors from the community will speak at the ceremonies at the Veterans Memorial. A large multi-racial chorus group from New Orleans will sing at the event.

T-shirts for the event will be available.

A spokesperson for the Prayer Walk said the theme of the event is “A Day of Hope” for the religious unity of all churches to join together to guide the direction of the community in a positive direction.
