St. Gabriel awards contracts totaling $1,447,343

Staff reports

At the recommendation of engineer Tony Arikol of Professional Engineering Consultants Corporation (PEC), the St. Gabriel City Council awarded two infrastructure contracts.  These actions were approved unanimously by the council.

Plaquemine Contractors, Tullier Services, LLC was awarded the contract for the Carville Wastewater Treatment Facility improvements in the amount of $904,000, which represented the low bid for this project.  Mayor George L. Grace reported that the City’s financial obligation would be less than $50,000 because the rest of the money ($850,000) would be covered by a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

The second project awarded was the turn lane to be located at LA Highway 30 and Gordon Simon Leblanc Drive.  This turn lane will serve the new Iberville Math, Science and Arts Academy East, the Premier Indoor Soccer facility and the St. Gabriel Community Center.  The low bidder on this project was F.G. Sullivan, Jr. Contractors, LLC.  The winning bid was $543,343.25.  Funding of this project will be done through a Capital Outlay grant of $750,000.  However, Mayor Grace explained to the Council that the City is responsible for a 25% match, which amounts to approximately $125,000.  Additional Capital Outlay dollars may be used to improve the intersection at LA Highway 30 and LA Highway 74.

The council was also apprised of the problems involving the last part of the St. Gabriel Sidewalk project.  This $850,000 project was awarded to La Contracting Enterprises, LLC and was secured through a grant from the DOTD Enhancement Fund.  Mayor Grace reported that J & J Engineers of Baton Rouge is working with the Iberville Parish Utility Department to ascertain the problems along with possible solutions in order for this project to continue towards completion.
