WC police arrest man in armed robbery

The White Castle Police on Saturday arrested Alvin Smith, 29, of 32245 Doc Dean Street, White Castle, on charges of armed robbery, aggravated battery and aggravated damage to property in connection with an incident outside the White Castle Community Center in January, according to Police Chief Mario Brown.

Brown said Smith is accused of calling his ex-girlfriend out of the town's “inaugural ball,” robbing her of her cell phone, punching her with a paint can and throwing the paint can into the window of her vehicle.

Smith had eluded officers until his arrest on Saturday, Brown said.

As of Monday, the suspect remained in the Iberville Parish Jail, records showed. Bond information was not immediately available.
