Iberville's jobless rate stays at 11.9%

Iberville Parish's unemployment rate hit 11.9 percent in February and remained there in March, according to the latest report from the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

The March rate is 2.2 percent higher than it was in March 2010.

The local jobless rate continues to be higher than the statewide rate of 8.0 percent and the national rate of 9.2 percent. Louisiana's rate held at 8.0 from February to March, while the national rate fell from 9.5 percent.

Iberville is one of 18 Louisiana parishes with unemployment in the double digits. Lafourche Parish had the lowest rate, at 5.9 percent, and West Carroll Parish had the highest, at 19.3 percent.

In March, Iberville had 10,895 employed workers and 1,477 unemployed. That is compared to 10,887 employed and 1,471 unemployed in February and to 11,144 employed and 1,199 unemployed in March 2010.
