Two arrested in Plaq. armed robbery
The U. S. Marshals has arrested Leon Banks, 35, 57742 Barrow Street, Plaquemine, on a charge of armed robbery in connection with a June 3 incident, Plaquemine Police Captain Steve Bezet confirmed Tuesday.
Earlier, the police had arrested Jarreau Johnson, 21, of 23011 Taylor Street, Plaquemine Both men are charged with armed robbery, armed robbery with use of a firearm and felony theft, Bezet said.
Johnson is accused of flagging down a 30-year-old acquaintance on Taylor Street at 11 a.m. June 3, and Banks of pulling a gun on the man and ordering him out of his truck, the captain said. He alleged they robbed the victim of a gold chain necklace and $200 in cash.
Banks also was booked on warrants for felony theft, improper telephone communications, simple assault, three counts of misdemeanor theft and simple battery in connection with three prior incidents, Bezet said.
In action last week, Bezet said, police arrested Jared Pierce, 19, of James Street, Plaquemine, on two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.
Pierce is accused of flagging down a car at the intersection of Meriam and Levy streets and pointing a gun at two women just after 8 p.m. July 5. Bezet said Pierce was arrested shortly after the women reported the incident, but did not find a weapon on him.
