SJ-WC Bus Association turns funds over to school

Staff reports

Members of the St. John School-White Castle area Bus Association recently turned over their funds to the Plaquemine Catholic school.

An estimated $8,000 was given to St. John as the association disbanded recently due to dwindling participation numbers.

“We are very appreciative of the generosity shown by the parents of St. John students who took part in the bus association,” commented St. John Administrator David Dean.

Students who live in White Castle and still attend St. John take private vehicles and car pools to and from school.

Association member John Desselles, who works at the Gillis Long Center Job Challenge, found a buyer for the bus used by the association in the Louisiana National Guard that operates the Job Challenge. That, plus funds built in the association’s checking account, made up the donation to the school.

“The group decided to give the funds to the school, rather than divide them up, to show support for St. John School,” explained Desselles.
