St. John wins homecoming game; PHS, WCHS, EIHS see action tonight

St. John celebrated homecoming Thursday with a win over Opelousas Catholic, while other Iberville high schools gear up for key matchups Friday night.

Hunter Schnebelen scored three touchdowns, Kalen Campesi scored twice and Devante Williams and Nicholas Lefebrve each had one to propel the Eagles to a 49-20 win over OCHS at Andrew Canova Stadium, where fans cheered the crowning of Natalie Orcino as the 2011 Homecoming Queen.

The Eagles (2-1) spotted OCHS the first touchdown, but two in the first quarter and another two in the next stanza to lead 28-6 at halftime. St. John rallied for another 14 in the third quarter and sealed it with seven in the fourth.

Plaquemine hopes to remain victorious this week when the Green Devils entertain Vandebilt Catholic at Andrew Canova Stadium. PHS enters the game after a 28-26 win last week at South Lafourche.

Defending 1A champion White Castle hopes to pull past last week’s lost when the Bulldogs visit University High. WCHS lost 23-14 at Central Catholic-Morgan City last week, which dropped the Bulldogs from first to seventh in the LSWA polls.

East Iberville hopes to improve to an unprecedented 3-0 when the Tigers host South Cameron. EIHS prevailed over Montgomery 26-20 last week.
