Atchafalaya Heritage program signs going up

Staff reports

Signs are popping up showing Iberville's designation as one of 15 Louisiana parishes in the Atchafalaya Heritage Trace Program, an official national heritage area, parish Environmental and Permits Manager John J. Clark said.

The program aims to preserve and promote the culture and heritage of the Atchafalaya, Clark said. It is administered federally through the Department of Interior's National Parks Service and in Louisiana through the lieutenant governor's office and the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.

“We all knew we were living in a special place, and now we have the signs,” he said.

The signs can be seen on La. 1 South at the Iberville/Ascension parish line, on La. 77 in Grosse Tete and on La. 76 in Rosedale.

“They're popping up everywhere, and they're pretty special signs.”
