Plaquemine Post South claims six first-place finishes, 14 awards at LPA Convention

The Louisiana Press Association held its annual LPA Convention and Awards Banquet last Saturday, June 20 at the Loews Hotel in New Orleans, where the Plaquemine Post South was presented with 14 awards, with six first-place finishes.
In the editorial competitions, the Post South won first in the Best News Story and Best News Coverage competitions, second in Best Feature Story, third in Best Overall Sports Coverage and third in Best Headline. The Post South placed second in the General Excellence competition.
In the advertising competitions, the Post South took first in In Paper Promotions, Multiple Advertiser Page, Non-Traditional Use of Space and Best Special Section.
The award-winning paper also took second in Staff-Generated Black and White, In Paper Promotion, Multiple Advertiser Page and Best Overall Website.
54 newspapers, publications, and student newspapers submitted 2,485 entries into the competition.
Newspaper of the Year honors went to The Advocate (Baton Rouge), The Times (Houma), The Ruston Daily Leader, the West Side Journal (Port Allen) and Southwest Daily News.
“We’ve had a great year, given the many changes in staff the paper has faced,” said Post South Editor Andrew Green. “Our hopes are to improve on our accomplishments and continue to bring a quality paper to our dedicated readers.”
