Iberville Museum becomes new home for Boxing Hall of Fame

On Wednesday, September 9 the Iberville Museum in Plaquemine, La. officially became the new home of the Louisiana High School Boxing Hall of Fame.  The official agreement was signed at a 10 a.m. event, and several of Plaquemine’s finest boxers were on hand for the event.

            Iberville Museum Board Chairman Fry Hymel and Louisiana High School Boxing Hall of Fame representative Don Landry signed the official partnership agreement between the two organizations.

            High school boxing began a competitive sport in Louisiana in 1931 and quickly became one of the most popular successful sports in the state.  Plaquemine High dominated the sport with nine state titles.  The Hall of Fame will find its first home in the city that garnered, arguably, the most success in the sport.

            “The Iberville Museum is excited to be the home of the Louisiana High School Boxing Hall of Fame in partnership with the Louisiana High School Boxing Association,” Elizabeth Brantley, Director/Curator of the Iberville Museum said.  “The Hall of Fame features high school boxers from across Louisiana, so this exhibit will be a great chance to shine a spotlight on Iberville Parish, its tourist attractions as well as the many noted high school boxers from our area.”

            The Hall of Fame exhibit will feature several key artifacts highlighting the history of Louisiana boxing.  The exhibit is tentatively scheduled to open October 31, 2015.
