Port Allen woman arrested in connection with vandalized campaign signs
Plaquemine Police Department arrested Cara L. Ferachi, 33, of 2543 Rosedale Rd. in Port Allen in connection to vandalized campaign signs in Plaquemine. She was charged with multiple counts of Simple Criminal Damage to Property.
Political campaign signs belonging to District Judge for 18th Judicial District Court, Div. D candidate Joseph Dupont were vandalized last week.
“I would like to personally thank Police Chief Kenny Payne and his team for their swift and effective police work in capturing the person responsible for this,” Dupont said. “Obviously this was someone opposed to me, but I would like to continue a positive campaign.
“I look forward to getting back to the important issues of this race and what this election is truly about.”
Elizabeth Engolio, one of the two candidates vying for the seat said in a recent Facebook post, “I have worked hard to keep this judicial campaign positive; that is why I am so disappointed in the recent vandalism of the other candidate’s signs in Plaquemine.
“I want to be clear that I am adamantly against this behavior. It costs candidates money, time and energy, which I know to be precious during an election.”
Sources close to the investigation said this incident did not occur because of political reasons, but stemmed from a recent civil case handled by the candidate.
