Venturing Crew 24 visits local seniors at Iberville Council on Aging

Staff Report @ThePostSouth

There are over 44.7 million senior citizens in the US and their opinions and feelings matter to an awesome group of young adults in Iberville Parish.

On June 2, 2016, two members of Venturing Crew 24 and a youth advisory board member with GenerationOn shared a positive experience with local seniors at the Iberville Council on Aging in Plaquemine. They provided the elderly with the love and appreciation they deserve by donating 50 carnations and a positive quote stating,“Age is merely the number of years the world has been enjoying you. God Bless!”One of the seniors stated that it had been so long since she received a flower.

The goals of Venturing Crew 24 are to learn to make ethical choices, have an opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive, caring environment and experience positive leadership from adult and youth leaders. GenerationOninspires, equips and mobilizes hundreds of teens to take action through service, learning and youth leadership initiatives.

Caleb Harrell and Elise Jackson stated that they are dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors with kindness and joy and hope to change the world through their continued service.

"It meant a lot to the seniors to have Elise and Caleb come in and simply tell them 'we're thinking about you.'," Charlene Siplin, COA Director said. "One of the seniors cried because someone thought of her. A lot of people ask the question, what can we do to help the seniors? Volunteering to call bingo and bring prizes is their favorite, but a visit and just interacting with them will really put a smile on their faces."

On behalf of Parish President, J. Mitchell Ourso, and the COA Director, Charlene Siplin, we thank Caleb and Elise for putting a smile on the faces of the seniors of Iberville Council on Aging.
