Plaquemine Post South claims eight first-place finishes, 17 awards at annual LPA convention

The Louisiana Press Association held its annual LPA Convention and Awards Banquet last Saturday, June 18 at the L’Auberge Casino in Lake Charles, where the Plaquemine Post South was presented with 17 awards, including eight first-place finishes.
In the editorial competitions, the Post South won first in the Best News Coverage, Best Single Editorial and Best Overall Website competitions, second place in Best Single Editorial and third place in Best News Photo and Best Overall Sports Coverage.
In the advertising competitions, the Post South took first in Multiple Advertiser Page, Non-Traditional Use of Space Ad, Best Online Advertising Ad in both Static and Animated and Best Special Section.
The award-winning paper also took second in Best Services Ad-Non Retail, Non-Traditional Use of Space and third place in Best Retailer Ad, Best Classified Section, Best Special Section and In-Paper Promotion.
Fifty-eight newspapers, publications, and student newspapers submitted 2,777 entries into the competition.
Newspaper of the Year honors went to The Advocate (Baton Rouge), The Times (Houma), The Daily News (Bogalusa), The Plaquemines Gazette (Belle Chasse) and Southwest Daily News (Sulphur) in their respective divisions.
“Another great year for the Post South has come and gone,” Post South Editor Andrew Green said. “We set a goal for improvements at the paper and we have achieved those goals as evident by our performance at the LPA Awards and in our community. Winning first place in Best News Coverage for the second year in a row is just one of our many proud accomplishments we’ve achieved here, and our hope is to continue to provide quality local news to the great people of Iberville Parish and the surrounding areas.”
