Christmas in Dorseyville a success

Christmas in Dorseyville was held Dec. 17-18 in Dorseyville, La. at St. John the Baptist Church, a 148-year-old historical sanctuary.  The event kicked off with a parade at noon on Saturday, Dec. 17.  Parade Grand Marshal was Rev. Johnny Williams of the Greater Progressive Baptist Church, who has served in ministry for 50 years.  Parade Chairperson was Angelia Elzy.

The parade featured over 40 units featuring: Mr. Henry “Bucket” Scott (retiree from Iberville Parish and Deacton at St. John the Baptist Church; Kamri Gray, White Castle High Homecoming Queen 2016; Paige Joseph, Ascension Catholic High Homecoming Queen 2016; Delicia Landry, Nicholls State University Homecoming Queen 2016; Word of Truth New Life Center of Bayou Goula, Greater Progressive Baptist Church and Deacon Ministry; Masonic Lodge Obelisk #81; Just Cruzin’ Car Club; Corvette Car Club; Old School Car Club; Tracker’s Club; Plum Gorgeous Pampering; The Jackson Family; White Castle Mayor Gerald Williams; Councilman Thomas Dominique, District 3; and Ministries of St. John the Baptist Church, including marriage, youth, Angels of Praise Dance Team, deacons and ushers.

After the parade, the food court opened and featured various Louisiana foods and desserts.  In the evening, a drama entitled “Missing the Season”, written and directed by Sharon Villia, was performed by members of SJBC.

The intermission included a fashion show designed by Tiersten Dandridge with her one-of-a-kind African-print skirts, followed by a performance from the Angels of Praise Dance Team.

The annual Christmas Concert was held Sunday, Dec. 18 at 11:30 a.m.  The SJBC Mass Choir performed several Christmas hymns, youth ministry and Angels of Praise performed a liturgical dance and bell ringers performed “Silent Night” with special accompaniment by youth ministry member and violinist Tayvian Allen.
