Citizens gathered at the Iberville Veterans Memorial last Wednesday to remember the late Sgt. Shawn Anderson of East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office.

The event was Emceed by Cindy Savoy and organized by We Are the Difference.

“We are so blessed to live in a community where most of the Law Enforcement Officers know us or someone in our family,” We Are the Difference representative Rhonda Harrell said.  “These men and women leave the comfort of their homes to face unknown dangers daily.”

Sgt. Anderson, an 18-year veteran of the EBR Sheriff’s Office was killed in the line of duty on Saturday, March 18 when he was fatally shot inside a hair salon on Oneal Lane in Baton Rouge while investigating a rape case.

“They leave their children, spouses, parents and loved ones to protect each and every one of us,” Harrell added.  “They put their lives in danger to protect ours.  The least we can offer them is a thank you, a smile, and most of all our respect.  May God bless the peacemakers.”

Anderson was laid to rest last Thursday, March 23.
