The LEAD Task Force arrested 19 individual last Wednesday in a drug roundup.

The LEAD Task Force, made up of Iberville Sheriff’s Deputies and Plaquemine Police Officers, arrested 19 individuals last Wednesday morning in a drug round up.

The Task Force had its eyes set on 33 individuals last week, but Sheriff Stassi and Police Chief Kenny Payne brought in 19 and will not stop until the remaining individuals are arrested.  According to Stassi, they will be added to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

“This is next-level,” Sheriff Stassi said last week.  “We always want to move up to the higher level, but these are the people that are dealing drugs to our children on the streets of Iberville.”

This is the fourth roundup spearheaded by LEAD since Stassi was elected Sheriff.

For those remaining individuals, Stassi issued a warning: “They know they need to turn themselves in.  If not, we will get them.  The wheels of justice turn slow, but they always turn.”

According to Stassi, the biggest drug problem for Iberville Parish used to be prescription drugs.  But due to a hike in prescription drug prices, Stassi says they have seen a higher influx of crystal meth and heroin.

“We’re not going to stop,” Stassi said.  “We’re going to continue to fight the drug war to the end.  We’re not going to tolerate the sale of drugs in Iberville Parish.”
