Mass was celebrated by Rev. Miles Walsh, pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.  A tribute to “Ms. Deborah” was given by Terry Fountain, who served as Matirne’s pre-kindergarten assistant for 16 years.

Matirne will retire at the end of the 2016-2017 school year.  “Ms. Deborah” served Sacred Heart in a number of capacities during her 36-year tenure, including kindergarten assistant, pre-kindergarten teacher, and receptionist.  She also drove students from Iberville Parish on the “Grosse Tete Bus” to Sacred Heart, Catholic High School, Redemptorist High School, and St. Joseph’s Academy from 1981 until 2004.
