Pet Adoption Day held in Iberville

Pet Adoption/Awareness Day, sponsored by the Iberville Parish Animal Shelter, was recently held at the C.M. Mike Zito Multipurpose Center on April 8.

The event featured a rabies clinic, petting zoo, pony rides, face painting and an Easter Egg Hunt for the little ones.  The rabies clinic was provided by the Animal Medical Center of Plaquemine and the Acadian Animal Clinic and offered discounted vaccinations for Iberville pets.

Local shelters were also available on site for attendees interested in adopting a pet, and according to Iberville Animal Shelter representative Mark Migliacio, seven dogs and two cats found new homes.

Pet Adoption Day is held every Saturday before the Easter holiday weekend and Migliacio hopes the event gets bigger and better every year.

“We have a lot of animals in the parish that come to us in many different ways,” Migliacio said, “and we try to find good homes for them.”

Migliacio and his crew also invited Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter to sponsor on-site adoptions at the event.
