Surprised by an array of royal blue, navy blue, white and metallic silver with a Dallas Cowboys theme, and in the company of his family and friends, Mr. Manuel J. Scott celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the North Iberville Community Center in Rosedale.  Mr. Scott was born on April 16, 1937.

Mr. Scott, of Maringouin, is married to Sadie Clark Scott and they are the loving parents of five children: Pastor Rod Scott, Kyle Scott, Ronelda Scott Brown, Nicole Scott and Janssen Scott, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He is a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Council 119, a 1957 graduate of Thomas A. Levy High School, a former Alderman of the Town of Maringouin and a semi-retired owner of Scott’s Construction, Inc.

The celebration was hosted by his family and the program Emceed by Ginger F. Smith included an opening prayer from Pastor Roderick Scott, musical selections from North Iberville Male Chorus and Marvin Sims, tributes from former Dallas Cowboys coach Walter Williams, family members Kyle Scott, Rev. Ricardo Handy, Sr. and friend Bro. Bill Compton.

The birthday dinner included hors d’oeuvres, cajun baked chicken, country pork roast, jambalaya, string beans, shrimp pasta, dinner rolls, fruit and desserts.

Mr. Scott attributed his life to simple, orderly living and a keen interest in the world around him.  He and his family acknowledge with loving thanks the family and friends who traveled from California, Ohio, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Port Allen, Lafayette and surrounding areas for being a part of his 80th birthday celebration.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Georgia H. Porche for the venue’s decor and dinner.
