Alleged drag racing claims a life in Port Allen

According to the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, two white trucks possibly drag racing northbound on LA 1 claimed the life of a Plaquemine woman.

Gina Marks, 22, was killed after she was ejected from one of the trucks involved in the incident.  The driver of the truck was her brother, Vinny Marks, 24.

WBRSO representatives report that a man in a gray pickup identified as David Sercey was driving southbound on LA 1 and approached the light near the Port Allen Walmart.

Sercey turned into Walmart as the two trucks were racing towards him.  Vinny Marks was forced to turn so as not to directly strike Sercey and instead clipped his vehicle which overturned Marks’ truck in a ditch.

The driver of the other truck involved corrected and kept going.  According to WBRSO, deputies are searching for the other white truck involved in the alleged drag racing that has a Florida license plate.

Sercey was ticketed with failure to yield and Marks was charged with driving under suspension.  According to a WAFB report, WBRSO deputies are awaiting results of a blood test of both Sercey and Marks and, pending the results, the case could go before a WBR Parish grand jury.

Anyone with information on the white truck with a Florida plate is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
