Registered sex offender caught in Texas after allegedly inappropriately touching a young girl in Iberville Parish

Garrett Cedotal, a 29-year-old registered sex offender of 37375 Fifty Food Rd. in White Castle, was recently arrested for allegedly inappropriately touching a young girl, according to Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi.

Stassi said that his office received a call last week that a young girl had accused a man who was staying at their family home had inappropriately touched her.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Cedotal had been staying with a family and when the mother left for work before Cedotal had to leave is when Cedotal had allegedly inappropriately touched the victim, an 11-year-old.

“She was awoken by the man in her room and he had apparently toucher her inappropriately,” Stassi said in a WAFB interview.

According to the report, the girl called her mother, who then contacted IPSO, but by the time officials came looking for him, he was gone.  Stassi said Cedotal did not show up for work and left the state that same day.

According to IPSO, Cedotal was arrested north of Houston in Conroe, Tx. earlier this week.  Law enforcement officials there arrested him for violating his probation from a previous charge.

In 2015, Cedotal was arrested in Assumption Parish and charged with molestation of a juvenile.  He plead guilty to that charge, according to Stassi, and instead of jail time was forced to serve a five year probation.

Stassi also explained that when Cedotal moved to Iberville Parish, he registered as a sex offender and can be found on the registry, but was not living at his registered address.  Stassi also warns citizens to be aware of those you invite into your home.

“There are several ways to check out sex offenders on the sex offenders registry on the IPSO website,” Stassi said.  “Before you leave our most prized possessions alone with these people, make sure you know who those people are.”

When Cedotal is brought back from Texas, he will be charged with molestation of a juvenile, indecent behavior with a juvenile, felony sexual battery and unlawful presence of a convicted sex offender.  He will be scheduled for an extradition hearing in the near future.
