Three splash pads were recently constructed in the City of St. Gabriel at three city parks: Amanda Anderson Grace (Bayou Paul), O’Neal Brown, Jr. (Carville) and Sunshine Parks.

According to the St. Gabriel Mayor Lionel Johnson, after significant planning, design and construction, the splash pads “provide water features and relief from the summer’s heat for area children.”

The pads feature flowing, misting, and jetting water amenities.  According to the Mayor, the splash pads do not recycle water, an important health and safety feature that ensures that very young children can enjoy them.

The three splash pads came with a $350,000 price tag, but Mayor Johnson believes the new city additions are well worth it.

“The splash pads are part of the city’s ongoing Beautification Initiative,” Johnson said.  “It is one more addition increasing the overall value and attraction to our parks.  We wanted to give our youth a cool, fun way to beat the heat and stay cool while adding something to the community that our residents can be proud of.”

Johnson also plans to add a splash pad to Williams St. Park, and is currently negotiating with Iberville Parish officials and IPRD on the logistics.
