Leadership Iberville is currently accepting application for its 2017-18 class.  This annual program is held in monthly sessions from September through April that are designed to prepare participants for leadership positions in government, business and community affairs.

The program also serves as a “vehicle for training people who can be catalysts for change”, according to the Iberville Chamber of Commerce website.

Leadership Iberville sessions focus on specific aspects of the parish, such as local government, education, social services, economic development, and much more.  These sessions include lectures, simulations, group discussions, panel discussions and field trips.

Each year, a maximum of 20 potential local leaders are selected from a list of applicants in the community who “reflect the cultural, religious, racial and ethnic diversity” of Iberville parish.  While working alongside one another, participants broaden their understanding of community issues while enhancing leadership skills.

According to the Chamber website, the following are guidelines for selection into the program:

  • Are currently senior policy makers or show a strong possibility of achieving senior policy-shaping positions in their employment or volunteer organizations;
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to the community through volunteer work;
  • If employed, have the endorsement of their employer; and
  • Make a commitment to attend every session. Participants who miss more than two sessions are dropped from the program. Attendance at the opening and closing sessions are mandatory.

The program begins in September with an opening session, and continues through April with either a half-day or whole-day session each month, and then ends in May with a closing session.

Sessions are conducted by recognized leaders and policy makers whose decisions affect the community.  Participants are responsible for their fees, however, their employers or sponsoring organization usually pays the fee, according to the Chamber of Commerce.
