Plaquemine's Green Devils defeated by St. Thomas More of Lafayette

TOMMY COMEAUX

The Cougars of St. Thomas More were able to hold the Plaquemine High Green Devils scoreless in a game played across the swamp on St. Thomas More's home turf.

In the meantime, the home team racked up points in each quarter, at least a touchdown in each and two in the third quarter to come out on top, 35-0.

Ccougar William Cryer got the Cougars on the board in the first quarter on a 5-yard run while Grant Arceneaux tacked on another TD in the second quarter with a 35-yard pass reception thrown by quarterback Caleb Holstein.

In the third quarter, Cryer scored again, this time on a 6-yard rush and after about five minutes ticked off the clock, teammate Chris Primeaux did the same -- scoring a rushing TD from six yards out.

John Robertson put the icing on St. Thomas More's cake with a long-distance 53-yard touchdown reception from a throw by Holstein.

In the game, the Green Devils squeezed out 12 first downs to the Cougars' 20 and were outrun and beaten in the passing game as well.

Plaquemine High finished with a net of 74 yards on the ground and 158 passing, compared to 254 for St. Thomas More.

Plaquemine will play at home next Friday against West St. John.
