Backlog leads to 3,186 COVID-19 cases reported

Louisiana reported a record single-day total of COVID-19 cases today, though almost half were from a backlog of tests that hadn't been recorded.

The state health department reported 3,186 cases for a total of 94,892 with 1,583 of those attributed to a backlog of test results from May 18 to July 13. That left 1,603 new cases.

Twenty-nine more people have died for a total of 3,462.

Hospitalizations continued their steady month-long rise with 39 more patients admitted for in-patient care for a total of 1,508.

Fifteen more patients needed ventilators for a total of 192.
