Vehicle traffic limited after barge hits Bayou Sorrel bridge

Staff Report

The Bayou Sorrel draw bridge is back in full service after a barge rammed into the structure last Friday.

The state Department of Transportation repaired the Bayou Sorrell draw bridge Monday, just three days after a barge collided with the structure. The quick repair eliminated curfews for boat traffic.

Quick repairs – much sooner than expected – eliminated the need for curfews the state Department of Transportation and Development put in place to help move boat traffic.

The barge had struck the pilings for the bridge pilings Friday morning while the crossing was in open position.
